Dr. iur. Karsten Hofmann

Karsten Hofmann (*1977) has joined Netzle Rechtsanwälte in May 2010 after he passed the German bar exam. He is admitted to the German bar and registered with the Swiss bar.

Karsten Hofmann studied law at the University of Bonn, Germany. After university he completed a two-year legal clerkship (Referendariat) with stages at a district court, a public prosecutor’s office, an administrative authority and two law offices in Hanover, Germany and Zurich, Switzerland working on contract law, employment law and sports law matters. During his work for an online sports law service he gathered further experience in sports law.

Karsten Hofmann is active in the areas of civil law matters, sports law and arbitration. He is an arbitrator with the German sports arbitration tribunal (Deutsches Sportschiedsgericht) and an ad hoc clerk with the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS). Karsten Hofmann is a member of the Swiss Arbitration Association and its young arbitration practitioners group “ASA Below40”, of the Swiss and the Zurich Bar Association as well as the German Bar Association and its sports law practice group. On a voluntary basis he is a member of the legal committees for sports of the German YMCA and the YMCA Westbund (chairman).

His thesis is titled „Zur Notwendigkeit eines institutionellen Sportschiedsgerichtes in Deutschland“ („Why Germany needs a sports arbitration institution“) and was graded with “magna cum laude”. Furthermore, he is one of the winners of the DIS-Award 2009/2010 awarded by the German Institution of Arbitration (DIS).
